Shoo Shoo Baby, B-17

This combat veteran B-17 Flying Fortress, a survivor of 23 bombing missions over occupied Europe, is preserved at The United States Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio. "Shoo Shoo Baby", a B-17G built by Boeing, flew and fought with the 91st Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force from the airbase at Bassingborn in the UK. On it's 23rd mission, the bomber was damaged in combat and flown to Malmo, Sweden where the crew was interned and the bomber was saved. After the war it had a career as a Swedish airliner and flew as a geographic survey airplane for the French.

Discovered derelict by aviation author Steve Birdsall at an airfield in France, the lone combat veteran B-17G was returned to the USA and after a 10 year restoration was flown to the USAF Museum in October of 1988. Photographed shortly after making it's last flight on the ramp at Wright Field where so many B-17s had passed through on their way to war.
