American Eagles, Heirloom Edition
Featuring the signatures of forty famous American aviators.

Dan Patterson, Photographer, Air Vice-Marshal Ron Dick, RAF (Ret.)

"AMERICAN EAGLES, A History of the United States Air Force", is a comprehensive review of the United States Air Force and its origins. This unique book is 464 pages, hardbound with more than 500 illustrations, including some 275 historical photographs, 30 pieces of aviation art, and close to 300 new color photographs by Dan Patterson which feature the collection at the United States Air Force Museum, in Dayton, Ohio. The 220,000 word text was written by Air Vice-Marshal Ron Dick, RAF (Ret.).

The Heirloom Edition of AMERICAN EAGLES is bound in leather which matches the color of the famous A-2 flight jacket, and enclosed in a slipcase covered in linen similar to that used by the Wright brothers for the wings of their 1903 Flyer.

An additional sixteen pages feature the portraits, biographies and original signatures of forty famous American aviators who flew and fought in the airplanes which made Air Force history.

"If you purchase only one history of the U.S. Air Force, this should be the one. A great, juicy sirloin of a book... Threaded throughout are individual episodes, war stories, but the literate quality of the writing is what most recommends this history. Clustered throughout are Patterson's color photographs of the aircraft and artifacts, all of them lighted in such a way that one can barely resist the urge to reach out and touch the metal surfaces.
Air & Space/Smithsonian June 1998
